Geeksme, the Spanish startup that turns any object into intelligent

Geeksme, the Spanish startup that turns any object into intelligent

The information collected is always the user," says its founder

Spain is the fifth country in Europe in investment in IoT, only behind Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Italy, according to IDC data. Forecasts indicate that the internet market of things will reach 23,000 million euros in 2020.

However, the perception is, as in sport, the eternal promise to excel. "You have to adjust many designs, parameters and that's why many IoT ideas remain in the pipeline," explains Ángel Sánchez Díaz, co-founder and General Manager of Geeksme.

An already familiar concept that was born in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and is about a revolution in the relations between objects and people, even between objects directly, that connect with each other and with the Network and offer data in real time.

Twenty years old, the IoT is still not deployed. "In Spain there is a huge deficit of this type of companies and they know what this is," adds the co-founder of Geeksme. This is how this Spanish startup was born. "What we did was to get a first product to the market and to get attention, because when you're a startup you have limited resources and you have to be different and get attention," says Sanchez.

They started their professional career in the big company, they left the mobile telephony and came to the IoT world. First with a smartwatch that measured sexual performance and then with a smart mattress. Now they are planted in the market with the solution to turn any object into intelligent. "Universall emerges as a process of maturation," says Geeksme's father. "For 2 years we have been thinking about how to adopt an ecosystem to the industry so that when someone has an idea that idea can be carried out quickly," he adds.

The Universall ecosystem allows companies to benefit from IoT technology to develop specific solutions without incurring high development costs or spending long periods of time implementing them. Companies and end users can finally acquire solutions that add value and solve real needs.

The innovative system consists of hardware and software devices, which "satisfy 80% or 90% of the needs of the industry." Through tiny sensors 3 centimeters in diameter are coupled to any object to control their activity. "They are equipped with Bluetooth technology 5 and can measure the movement thanks to its accelerometer, gyroscope and compass. They also have a push button and a multicolored LED that informs about the different states: data transmission or battery level, among others », the company details.

All the information recorded in these Quarks, as they are called, are transferred by bluetooth to a mobile app designed by Geeksme. "The information is always from the user," they explain. "Much of the potential of this ecosystem lies in the analysis of Big Data, which combines data to generate statistics and aggregate and anonymous reports that allow a global vision and increase business intelligence," they add.

"Making an intelligent object by itself does not make sense, what makes sense is the use case," recalls Ángel Sánchez. Geeksme is working on the development of five applications that will be available next spring.

The most important is Universall Care, which is focused on monitoring the elderly living alone. "The different sensors are located in the usual places of the home, such as the bed, the access door to the home, the refrigerator, the chair, the bathroom door or the medicine cabinet. It will be known if the expected routine actions are carried out or if, on the contrary, there is unusual activity, "the company points out.

The rest of applications focus on work as Universall Space to make more efficient use of common space, meeting rooms and jobs in companies. Universall Retail to help small and large businesses.

And two new systems for the home: Universall Stars, which allows to know the quality of rest and helps to sleep better, and Universall Safe, which offers the possibility of knowing in real time if a storage room has been opened.
